Top 7 Benefits of the PeopleSoft Fluid Matrix Management Feature

PeopleSoft Fluid Matrix Management now provides self-service tools for not only administrators, but also managers and employees, to create and manage matrix teams of employees through the Fluid navigation paradigm. The matrix teams designate the reporting structure, or teams, the employee belongs to as well as who they report to. Matrix teams can be cross-functional or cross-business group, along with other reporting arrangements. 


Here are the top 7 benefits of the PeopleSoft Fluid Matrix feature.



1) Quick Access from the Fluid Homepage

Users can access the Matrix teams by navigating to the Fluid Employee Self Service Homepage and selecting the “Manage Matrix Team” tile. The following Manage Matrix Teams page appears, showing all of the matrix teams the user owns.



2) Simplified Matrix Team Creation

To add a new matrix team, the user simply clicks on the plus sign “Create Team” button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. On the “New Team” page, users can fill out the required fields to create a new matrix team.


Users can select the type of matrix team using a drop down menu. By clicking on the blue information icon next to the drop-down list, users can see more information about each type of matrix team, including a description with the list of HR actions that a user will be able to take by creating the matrix and any required approvals. The types of matrix teams can be set by an organization, offering the types of teams that best fit an organization’s individual needs.


After selecting the team type, adding a description and selecting the team’s start date, the user can press Save to create the new matrix team. Once the user has pressed Save, the “Matrix Team” page will appear and designate the user as the owner of the matrix team.


3) Easy Search and Add for New Team Members

To add additional employees to the matrix team, users can select the plus sign “Add Member” button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.


The Person Selector page appears, allowing the user to search for employees within the organization to add to the new matrix team. Users can look up employees by entering in their name or email address into the search bar.



Users have the ability to sort to narrow down the search results to find the employee they are looking for.


Users can sort by name, job title, ACName, Department or Location. Once the user has found the employee to add to the matrix group, the user simply selects the checkbox next to the employee’s name and then clicks on Continue. Matrix team owners can designate a member’s start or end dates, the individual’s role within the matrix team and if that individual will be a team lead.  



4) Company Directory Search


Another method of finding employees to add as team members to a matrix team is to utilize the Fluid Company Directory. From the Company Directory, users can see which teams an employee is a part of. Users can access the Company Directory by clicking on the Company Directory tile on the Fluid Homepage.


5) HTML Email Approval

The individuals that the user adds to the new matrix team will now appear on the Matrix Team page. After clicking Save, the newly added members will show a “Pending” Status. PeopleSoft Fluid Self Service Matrix utilizes HTML email approvals to send an email to an employee’s manager to ask for their approval to place that employee on the newly created matrix team.



The manager can approve or deny the request as well as send comments. Once the employee’s manager approves the matrix team request, the employee’s status will appear as Active.



6) Related Actions

From the Matrix Team page, the owner can utilize Related Actions for each team member. The Related Actions that appear are determined by administrator-controlled team type set up as well as security. Some example related actions include Time Management, Compensation, Performance and more.  


7) Capability to Change Team Ownership

Users can also easily make a different employee the team owner. To make another employee the team owner, the user chooses a matrix team they want to give someone else ownership of from the Manage Matrix Teams page. After clicking “Team Details,” the user clicks on the “Change Owner” button.


Using the Person Selector page, the user can search for the employee they would like to be the new team owner, select the employee and then save the changes. Once the user changes team ownership, the matrix team will no longer show up in the user’s matrix teams.
